Hott Shott week 3

Week 3 of Hott Shott brought out a few new players and a couple returnees from last year for a total of 6 teams. This week we reintroduced the black 30 pt distance and experimented with leaving all discs on the ground while shooting (no more holding all 5 discs in your hand.) This proved to be an added challenge and workout because of all the bending and refocusing on every shot.

After a crappy first round, Pete May and Stephen Trello turned up the heat and putted their way to victory. It was each golfer's first victory of the year. Stephen also took high score of the week honors with 435.

Next week we're going to use a shot clock to spice up the action. See you Wednesday at 7!

Innova stops by the Hive!

Today was a special day for the Hive; we got a visit from Innova's Harold Duvall who was down visiting Pete May. Harold's a pretty big bigwig at Innova if you don't know.

It was great to finally meet him because back in 2006, out of the blue, Harold donated a basket to the course I was building in MA. His was the first basket we installed (hole 14 at Devens) while we were still using our famous orange plastic bucket-on-a-pole "baskets".

Although I thanked him profusely by email, this was the first chance I had gotten to meet him in person, so that was super cool.

TomMac wins again

Still undefeated! Congrats to TomMac for taking down his second weekly Hott Shott title in a row with partner Aaron. 2 and 0 for the lefty from Aiken.

Hippodrome Monthlies!

Killer B Disc Golf will be hosting a monthly no-frills tournament at the Hippodrome on the third Saturday of each month starting this Saturday, January 19, at 10 AM.

Courses and formats will vary and may include singles, doubles, 666, skins, match play, and anything else we can think of!

January's Monthly is two rounds of singles on Hogback. No pre-reg necessary.

• Sign in at the Pro Shop by 9:45. Tee off at 10.
• $10 - Advanced, Intermediate, Rec, and Women play for Buzz Bucks.
• $20 - One division plays for cash.
• $3 of each entry goes to course.

Hott Shott: Week 1 results

We had a great turnout for week one of Hott Shott, considering the short notice I gave everyone!

Twelve golfers played three rounds of random doubles, with each team member shooting three times. The four teams with the highest point totals then moved on to the finals where they all started back at zero. The winner of that round was crowned Hott Shott of the week.

Most golfers showed up early to check out the new store layout and the new "Hott Shott Training Area" as Pete May likes to call it. We have set up 4 lanes at the back end of the shop using new Innova Sports Travellers and special lightweight discs similar to Sonics. We pulled over a couple couches where we could sit and watch the action and had some tunes going.

After I welcomed everyone and reviewed the rules and new things we are trying this year, Pete announced the Buzz Buck Booty. On the last week of the month, the top five scorers of the month will have a 1-round playoff for a wad of Buzz Bucks. Thanks Pete!

After that we drew cards, found our partners, Marcy took her post at the scoring chair, and the action started!

Team Aaron and Pete and Team James and John battled for first place each round, but it was fourth place qualifier TomMac and Scott who turned it on in the Finals and won week 1. Nice job guys!

The top two teams won Buzz Bucks and TomMac and Scott also won a handmade coffee mug (courtesy of TomMac!). Join us this Wednesday night at the shop at 7:00. Just $3!

If the store looks a little bare this weekend it's because Mrs B has taken a good chunk of our stuff down to the Savannah Open.

She'll be setting up shop Saturday and Sunday at Tom Triplett Park so if you live nearby, come touch our plastic!

This cold has officially beat down the B. The store will be closed today while I hit the meds and watch Springer.

Hippodrome memberships

As of Jan 1, 2013 all 2012 Hippodrome memberships have expired. This includes most golfers who previously played for free because of one reason or another. Starting next week, we are starting our member list from scratch.

Look for new 2013 memberships details next week, along with a list of current members. Thanks for your cooperation!

Paint and signs

Today Robert and I installed our store sign next to the entrance. Okay, it was mostly Robert but I did a pretty good job holding it in place while he did all the measuring, leveling, and screwing.

Yesterday, Roland painted a pretty big wall for us. It's amazing what a coat of paint will do for a space.  The new store is slowly starting taking shape and shedding it's past woodworking shop look. Come down and see for yourself!

Killer B Bowl 2 is history!

The first tourney of the year on the first day of the year saw probably the first ace of the year in Augusta. Congrats to TomMac Garrett for hitting hole 17 at Headrick Hills during the Killer B Bowl today. It was his first tournament ace and earned him a cool $40! What a way to start the year!
