The course we are building in Aiken County took a few big steps backward over the winter. Here's the good news and bad news.
Bad news: The Park staff who was helping has been reassigned to other parks. There is now just one park staff member for the entire park!
Good news: An Eagle Scout's project to help build trails and tee boxes has been approved.
Bad news: The power company clear-cut a huge chunk through the park for new power lines and ruined two great holes, one of which was epic.
Good news: I've added two new holes. One new power pole makes a decent obstacle. However, I will still miss hole 3!
Good news: The power company helped woodchip a few holes and cut up some trees. This was before the ice storm, unfortunately.
Bad news: Thanks to the ice storm, most fairways that had been cleared are now covered again with downed trees.
Good news: No baskets were smooshed.
Bad news: April is going to be very busy for us at Killer B and the Hippo, so we won't be able to get out there again until May.
I am discouraged because we were so close to finishing. We'll just have to regroup and have at it again. Who's up for a work party?!
Cool post Killer B, I hope you guys are able to make a great course and it is cool that you guys got help from boy scouts. I use to be in boy scouts and we use to do some cool projects, like repairing a trail bridge and things like that. I am still in high school and I hope I can either get a club started or a real team, for Okemos High School in Michigan. I want to get more poeple involved with the sport, like friends and family. Maybe we could build a course at the high school, but there are other courses around. Where is Aiken county? I would like to here more about this area.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. It doesn't take much to start a club. There are probably more disc golfers at your school than you think. I would just choose a date to meet after school near the soccer fields, for example, put up flyers, and start talking it up to your friends. The word will spread.
DeleteThen meet that day and just play object golf around the school. Or bring a portable and set it up in the courtyard one day at lunch and start putting. Pretty soon you'll have a crowd, form a club, and win the Michigan state high school title! Good luck!
Aiken County is in SC, near the GA border. My shop is in North Augusta, SC.
I am so excited about this new course! I live in beech island, not even 5 miles from the park and cannot wait for its completion. Y'all need a work party, I am extremely willing to help!
