Welcome to the Swarm, Dustin Perry!

We are happy to announce that Dustin Perry has joined the Killer B Swarm! Dustin joins World Champ Sarah Cunningham as our second sponsored player and we are excited to have him in the Hive!

Originally from Cedartown, GA, Dustin joined the Army in 2012 and was stationed nearby at Ft. Gordon earlier this year. Since then he has become a regular at Killer B leagues and tournaments. Last month, Dustin absolutely shredded Old Glory blacks by shooting 20-under with two ridiculous 1000-rated rounds to win the Killer B Stinger in Open. Amazing!

How it all started
A few months after playing his first round in 2009, Dustin played Rec in the Bowling Green Amateur Championships and claimed his first victory.
"An awesome memory I have is traveling to Bowling Green, KY with a buddy of mine and playing Rec very early on in my disc golf career. I had only been playing a matter of months before I made that trip up there. It was the largest field I had seen up to that point and probably still is to this day. My only goal was to make the final 9. I started out by shooting my first 1000+ rated round and battled all the way to a victory in 40+ mph winds."
A year later Dustin went pro and started racking up the wins and gaining valuable experience playing against some top pros.
"In the first A-tier I ever played, Barry Schultz took the lead from me on the second to last hole. I was exhausted and was frustrated that I had let my lead dwindle and eventually vanish. On the last hole of the tournament I knew I had to make something happen. I eagled the par 5 finishing hole to send it to a playoff that I eventually lost after few holes.
But my second place finish at the 2011 Atlanta Open convinced me that if I played to my abilities I could beat anyone out there."
Favorite discs
Dustin's discs du jour include:
  • Discraft Z Buzzz (of course!)
  • Discraft Nuke OS
  • Innova Star Destroyer
  • Innova Star Teebird
  • Innova Pro Rhyno
  • Innova McPro Aviar for putting
  • Prodigy 300s PA2

Free advice!
Dustin doesn't just enjoy playing, he also loves teaching other people to throw different shots. His main bit of advice for anyone striving to be a better disc golfer is to learn to flick and backhand equally. "Both shots have their advantage on skipping left or right, fighting different left to right, right to left crosswinds, and mainly taking OB and danger areas out of play better than the other."

More things you need to know
Here are a few more things Dustin thinks you should know about him:
  • I honestly will be more excited about my wife, Stacey, and brother to get their first win than any win I could get.
  • I just consider myself an athlete. So naturally I feel anything that involves throwing or catching something comes natural. I played football and ran track in high school. I got selected to the All State team in football in 2005 as a wide receiver and came within 12 inches of tying the Georgia state long jump record with a jump of 23'5".
  • I chose to play college football locally in Rome, GA at Shorter College because they made me the first recruit in their program's history.
  • I got hooked on disc golf in college. Disc golf basically became my sports focus and still is today.
  • I came up a bit short in a few sports to win a championship ring, but still plan to get a ring through winning the USDGC one of these days.

What's next?
Dustin faces Barry Schultz again this weekend at the Charleston Classic and looks forward to his first Killer B Bowl on New Years Day!
