High school league starting at Hippodrome

Hey high school kids in the CSRA! We are starting a high school league at the Hippodrome!
Join us Saturday, Sept. 8 at noon at the Hippodrome for an organizational meeting, free lunch, and some disc golf. We'll talk about how the league works and what you need to do, so start spreading the word with your friends and join us on Saturday.

Stuck Ape

James Halligan writes:
Here is a picture of my friend's Blizzard Ape stuck in the ground at the base of a tree at our home course (Reservoir Park in Southern Pines/ Pinehurst, NC). It was probably an inch or two deep and we had no idea how it happened.

It's a 3-pointer!

No we're not talking basketball. Check out this stuck disc sent in by Don at Pendleton Park in Augusta, GA! Nice.

Look Mom, I'm on TV!

Check out this program on the Peach Basket Invitational in Macon, GA that includes an exciting explanation of disc flight ratings by Killer B at the 8:40 mark.

So far, the show has been aired on both Fox and ABC local affiliates during normal hours (not at 3AM after the Lose Hair Now infomercial!). That's great progress!

Nice job, Macon Aces and thanks for asking me to help out!

It also has highlights from 3 rounds of disc golf with a focus on the lead card of the final round that included Augusta local Josh Childs.

Chuck some rubber!

Today is the last day to save $2 on Vibram. These discs last forever. Try something new!

The Vibram Open wraps up Sunday. Did your favorite live up to your hype?

And they're off!

The first cards have teed off at the Vibram Open National Tour event. Follow your friends and favorites with live scoring for all cards.

Who's your pick to win this 4-day grind? Can Nate Doss and Sarah Hokom repeat?

Augusta local Josh Childs has started out well and is -2 after 16. Keep it up!

Vibram spotlight: Summit and VP

Next up for Vibram Open week, we have two driving putters, the overstable VP and the beginner-friendly understable Summit.

These putters are great for long approach shots and shorter tee shots where you really want to rip into it. The VP also works great into a headwind.

While the VP is designed more for lob putters and advanced players, the Summit is an excellent all-around disc for beginners.

I've been using the Summit for years and love it for long anhyzer approaches and have just started to hyzer-flip it on straighter holes.

Give these two putters a shot this week and save $2 each during the Vibram Open!

Now, here's Steve!

Vibram spotlight: Ascent

We kick off Vibram Open Week with the Ascent, a slightly overstable fairway driver.

Remember, you get $2 off all Vibram discs this week at the store! Rubber rules!

It's Vibram Week at the Hive!

It's Vibram Open Week at the store! All Vibram discs are $2 off, plus you'll get a free Vibram sticker!

The VO holds a special place in my disc golf heart. I worked at Maple Hill a few summers ago, blogged for the last two Vibram Opens, and even wrote a feature article on the '09 VO for DiscGolfer magazine.

I'm bummed that I'm missing it this year, but you can bet I'll be watching it live on DGPTV.

Get a taste of what makes the Vibram so special by poking around my old blogs and photo albums. (Some links may be broken, tho.)

If you are within a couple hours drive of MA, get your butt there this week! Great course, great time, great people. Good luck to Augusta local Josh Childs as he heads up again this year. Last year he recorded an ace on hole 4, so you know he's got to like Maple Hill!

We're moving to the Hippodrome!

We are happy to announce that Killer B Disc Golf Shop is moving across the river to the Hippodrome Disc Golf Course in N. Augusta, SC! That's less than 3 miles from our downtown location!

We are teaming up with the ever-energetic and current Pro Legend World Champion Pete May and Tim Peterson to make the Hippodrome a great destination for disc golf.

We have big plans that include a pro shop, new signage and tee pads, new high school and adult leagues this Fall, a driving range, and several tournaments a year (PDGA and non-sanctioned).

I will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the four courses as well as Killer B and can't wait!

We should be good to go by October 1, and we'll be sure to keep you posted on how things are coming along.

So get ready Augusta, things just got a whole lot better in our little corner of the disc golf world!

$10 Tourney - Summer recap and pix

Another successful Killer B $10 Tourney is in the books! It's cool to see players figuring out which division they now belong after their third tournament. That's a good thing. Players are getting better and rivalries are starting.

$10 Champs!
This Sunday saw another sudden death playoff between Juniors Branden Hill and Will DeBruin. Unlike their 5-hole playoff in the Spring Tourney, this one lasted just one hole with Branden sidearming a beautiful park job on hole 1.

During the players meeting, we had our usual Flip Off. Ten year old Jackson Dunn out-flipped 55 golfers and won a Vibram VP putter! Later while final results were being tallied, Mike Doyle ran the ace pot throw-off (and won it! Hmm...) followed by the Ring of Fire sponsored by Matt Bonitatibus. Brandon Phipps won a Killer B performance jersey that Matt donated.

Killer B kicked in a bunch of discs for CTPs and Big Dog Sweeton sponsored the scratch-off ticket CTP for each card in round 2. I have to admit, for such a small inexpensive tournament, we had some good prizes and player perks! Sponsors kick butt!

Photos & Results
See all the photos from Sunday and complete results.

Congrats to the other divisional winners:
  • Advanced - Aaron Doyle
  • Master - Erick Kramer
  • Grandmaster - Chuck Hornsby
  • Women - Susan Leseueur
  • Intermediate - Steven Shelton
  • Rec - Brandon Phipps
  • Juniors - Branden Hill
Sponsors Rock!
Our players were fed, watered, Gatoraded, and watermeloned thanks to our awesome sponsors. Special thanks to Robolli's Italian Bar and Grill who supplied free pizza for lunch and our other sponsors David's Heating and Air, Bullard Dental, Lonnie and Austin Phillips, Big Dog Sweeton, the IDGC, Batman, and Mike Smith!

Next!
See you at the Fall Edition on Oct 7. Course TBD!

Paul Batman Childs made our snazzy trophy discs!

Leah B won the Spirit of the Olympics Award for having fun the whole day and never giving up!

Killer B, Killer B, Killer B
