The Road Rally loved us!
Yesterday's road rally disc golf challenge was great! Forty teams arrived at Enterprise Mill in their fancy sports cars, luxury cars, and trucks and played 5 holes of disc golf that we had set up in the courtyard and small field next to the building.
The winner of the event won a mock Green Jacket signed by all teams and Nate Doss and Valarie Jenkins.
One member of each team played the course and they zipped through quickly. Groups of two went out with a scorekeeper (Nate, Val, OldMan, and Taylor) while Mom Wallis tallied up scores at the end. I floated around taking photos, explaining the rules, and giving quick demos. Just one contestant recorded a deuce on the "special bonus" hole 5. His team received 70 extra points toward their overall race total.
Most people had never heard of disc golf before and several said that this challenge had been the funnest one yet!
Thank you Jason Allind at the PDGA for referring us to the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau to help with the event and for lending us discs, flags, and PDGA tent.
Today is our two-week anniversary and we've already put on two events. Pretty cool! Augusta rocks!

Disc golf challenge today - watch us on the Internet!
Today we are helping with the Fireball Run. We've set up a 5 hole disc golf course around Enterprise Mill for the competitor's official challenge of the day. Nate Doss, Valarie Jenkins, and Mom and Old Man Wallis are helping out too. It's going to be a fun day!
They are supposed to be broadcasting it live on the Internet, so tune in around noon and catch a glimpse of the B in GA!

The Hive was buzzzzin' last night
Considering the short notice, we had a great turnout last night for the Meet & Greet with Val Jenkins and Nate Doss last night. Fifteen golfers showed up for one-on-one instruction and conversation with the two World champs. Some of the kids really seemed to be starstruck and it was awesome to see.
One local brought in a videotape of a 15 year old Val in a putting contest many years ago. That was pretty funny to see.
Thanks to everyone who came down and thanks Val and Nate for kicking off our first Meet & Greet series!
More photos later! We are off to the road rally disc golf challenge next! Busy, busy, busy.

Tonight is the night! Meet Val and Nate!
Tonight is the night! Don't forget to come meet Val Jenkins and Nate Doss at the store at 7 PM.
Both Val and Nate kicked butt at this weekend's PDGA Championships. Val took home first and Nate came in a close second. Nice!
Be sure to bring your camera and questions about what it's like being one of the best disc golfers on the planet!

Come meet World Champs Val & Nate next Monday!
We are happy to announce the Killer B Meet & Greet series featuring the best of the best in disc golf.
Since we don't mess around here at the Hive, we are starting it off with not one, but two World Champions - Valarie Jenkins and Nate Doss! So come down to the store next Monday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 PM for our first Meet & Greet!
Val and Nate will be signing autographs, taking pictures, and chatting disc golf until 8:00. They'll also be giving a brief talk about life on the road and answer any questions you may have.
Share this blog with your friends and let's give Val and Nate a great Augusta welcome!

Come watch the pros at Wildwood this weekend
The country's top pros have started to roll into town for the PDGA Championships at Wildwood Park in Appling, GA. This event crowns the United States National Champion and it's right in your backyard (assuming that you live in the Augusta area of course!)
Who's going to be playing? Do these names ring a bell? Climo, Doss, Jenkins, Schusterick, Locastro, Feldberg, McCabe, Anthon, Schultz, Todd, Ulibarri, Pierce, Stanhope, Hokom, ...
The event is free except for a $3 park admission fee and runs Friday through Sunday. Go check it out and let me know how our tee sponsorship signs look because I'll be stuck at the store! :-)

Disc golf and NASCAR meet next week!
Killer B Disc Golf has been asked to help with an interesting road race next week in Augusta.
The Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is hosting the Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally at Enterprise Mill Tuesday, Sept. 27 from approximately 12-2. Forty teams including NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine, NASA shuttle astronaut Winston Scott, and actor/activist Kevyn Major Howard (Full Metal Jacket) are competing in a 2500 mile, 8-day adventure to raise awareness about missing children.
Each team will arrive and depart Enterprise Mill at its own pace between 12:30-2:30. While at the Mill, they will compete in a disc golf challenge in the courtyard. The details aren't set yet, but I'll most likely set up a short 3-5 hole course and throw in a putting game at the end. The team with the lowest score wins a mock Green Jacket.
This event is free and open to the public and is supposed to be broadcast live on the Internet. Sounds like fun! I of course will be rooting for Team Bumblebee.
The Fireball Run’s Race to Recover America’s Missing Children is the largest active recovery effort for missing and exploited children in the country. Each team is assigned a child from their home region along with thousands of posters to distribute along the route. A decal featuring the child is affixed to the vehicle, creating a rolling milk carton. To date, the effort has assisted in the recovery of 36 missing children.

Thanks for the festival, Augusta!
Wow, what a great opening weekend in Augusta! I'd like to thank the city for holding the Arts in the Heart Festival just for us this weekend and getting so many people downtown to check us out. ;-)
The store was pretty busy from Friday night all the way through Sunday afternoon and it was great! Both experienced players and people who had never heard of disc golf were coming through the doors.
I had some good recruiters - a couple of kids from the neighboring stores seemed to always be out front either putting or spinning around the basket rattling the chains.
I also have to give a huge thank you to the newest Friend of the Hive, Taylor McK, who hung out we us Friday and Saturday folding shirts, moving stuff around, and talking with customers out front. Every time someone asked me about a local course, Taylor was there with an answer (I've only played each course once so far!)
We had a number of local downtown residents and shop owners stop in and thank us for helping revitalize downtown and even more golfers in general tell us how awesome it is to have a disc golf shop in the area again. We are glad to help and look forward to many years down here!
Overheard
One of my favorite comments of the weekend was from an older woman who had never heard of disc golf who said, "Is that where you throw a Frisbee and pretend you're playing golf?" I dunno, it just made me chuckle.

Here are some other favorites I heard:
- "There's actually a disc golf store!"
- "This is fun!"
- "My girlfriend made a mistake when she showed me this store."
- "This is the first disc golf store I've ever been in!"
- "I don't remember seeing this store. When did you open?" Three days ago. "Ahh, that explains it!"
- "A disc golf store? Oh. My. God."
- "Is it okay to bring beer in here?"
- "I like to touch them all."
- "Look! It's a puppy!"

Open late this Saturday
We will be open until 9:00 Saturday night as the Arts in the Heart Festival rolls on.
We had dozens of people stop by tonight (both golfers and nons) and had fun playing with the little kids out front with the practice basket.
I actually met a guy who grew up in the town next to where I just moved from. Small world!
So stop by tomorrow between 10:30-9:00. You do not have to pay admission to the festival. Just tell them at the gate that you are there for a disc golf shopping spree.

Look good. Shoot good.
A fresh batch of shirts, minis, and stickers just came out of the oven!
Yellow and ash short sleeve shirts (soft cotton) are available in ladies sizes. Black and gray are available for the guys in long and short sleeve, as well as a few random colors. Mens are moisture-wicking 50/50 blends.
Short sleeve shirts are $10. Long sleeves are $15. 2XL and larger are two bucks more.
Come smell the goodness that is fresh shirts and plastic.

Arts in the Heart this weekend
Just a heads-up that the 31st Annual Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival is this Friday through Sunday downtown (and right in front of the store!). Broad St will be closed and filled with vendors. If you were planning to come down to check out the store, I think you have to get a special wristband at the main gate, but I'm not sure.
I'm kind of bummed this is going on the first weekend I'll be open, but I'm kind of happy too. They are expecting 50,000 people to attend this festival so maybe a few of them will be disc golfers!
Hmm, going by the map, the portable toilets should be in front of the store. Awesome!

Store hours this week
When do you GA golfers usually play? Morning, afternoon, or late afternoon?
What time are leagues? Help a brother out with some info!
This week I'll be open 12:00-6:00 weekdays and 10:30-6:00 on the weekend. We'll see how it goes and go from there.

We made it!
After two long days of slowly driving in the rain, we made it to Augusta late Thursday night. Today we unpacked the truck and dropped off the old store at the new store. Now it's adult beverages time and some chilling on the patio, but I know Mrs Killer B won't be able to resist unpacking a bit.
Local John C helped us today and is our first Friend of the B in GA. We would still be at it if it wasn't for his bigass handtruck! John is yet another great example of why disc golfers are awesome. Amazingly, he just started playing two weeks ago!
It was my first time in the store today and wow is it a wee bit bigger than the MA one. Probably 2.5 times larger in front with a huge back room. I will need to fill it with more discs and gear! I'll add some photos once we hook up cable and Internet.
That's it for now. It's Miller time!
