The new Killer B tournament blog debuts at Vibram Open!

Yes! Another disc golf blog! I've started another one for tournaments that I attend called Putt and Approach.

Starting tomorrow, I'll be blogging at the Vibram Open at Maple Hill. Same kind of stuff as the past two years -- what's going on, what's scheduled for the day, who just clunked one off a tree, and lots of photos. It will be part of the VO social explosion that includes live video, scoring, and Facebook and Twitter stuff.

So, check it out and add it to your daily disc golf reading. And spread the word.

Bloggin' and buzzin'. That's how we roll.

Two minutes!

Uh, make that two days until we close our MA store. It's been busy the past few days and I appreciate everyone stopping by to wish us luck.

We're open until 6 today and Wednesday, so stop by if you can. If not, I'll be down at the Vibram Open the rest of the week helping out.

Anyone along I-95 want to open up their home to us, the dogs, and a moving truck for a night?  :-)

The best disc golfers in the world are coming to MA this week!

Do yourself a favor and get your butt to Leicester, MA this week to watch the best disc golfers in the world compete in the Vibram Open at Maple Hill disc golf course.

Last year's Open winner, Nikko Locastro
Look in your bag and pull out a disc with a signature on it. Chances are good that that person will be at this event! Newly-crowned world champions Nate Doss and Page Pierce will be there, as well as former champs Nikko Locastro, Eric McCabe, Avery Jenkins, Valerie Jenkins, Dave Feldberg, and Barry Schultz.

The festivities start Thursday with Match Play and the Five Spot Tournament. The actual tournament starts Friday and runs through Sunday. Admission is free and there are all sorts of fun things to watch, especially the long distance contest. Bring a blank disc and a Sharpie and get some autographs too!
There will also be a special screening of the disc golf documentary Chains on Wed. night at 8:30. If you can't make it to the tournament, you'll be able to watch it live on DiscGolfPlanet.TV and keep up with live scoring and the blog which I'll be doing for the third year in a row. I'll post the link once everything is ready to go.

And who knows, maybe we'll get some pros to come to league the following week. We snagged Val, Avery, and Nate last year but it may be tough this year since we're headed to GA on Wed. but you never know!

We surprised our league members with a free pro clinic by Val, Avery, and Nate!

Are you having a sale?

A few days ago a guy called and instead of the customary hello just blurted out, "Are you having a sale?" I answered, "A sale on what?"

"Well you're going out of business so you should have a sale."

"I'm not going out of business. I'm moving."

Then with a good amount of attitude he told me I should have a sale because he saw an online store having a sale and I should match their price for the item he wanted. I told him I couldn't do that but if he wanted to pay shipping and wait for his stuff to come in a few days instead of coming to Killer B and getting it today for roughly the same price, then he should order from them. I guess he didn't like my suggestion and he hung up on me.

So, to summarize, I am not having a blowout sale. After all, I need some stock for my new store in GA!

Our new sticker?

We're all out of our first sticker design. What do you think about this one?

Or should we just reprint our first black and white version?

Ace in Appling!

Congratulations to Grandmaster Jon Jiminez who aced hole 14 on the Steady Ed Headrick course in Appling, GA during the IDGC Global Tournament this weekend.

That's one way to make sure no one else gets the Killer B sponsored CTP! See you at the store next month, Jon!

The circle is complete

Our first tournament at Devens was an Ace Race and Doubles event in Oct. 2007. We had 23 people participate (original post). My partner Dave James and I ended up winning Dubs when Dave aced hole 1 in a playoff. It was an incredible way to win a tournament and a great way to open tournament play at the Hill.

This past Sunday, almost four years and several tournaments later, we had another doubles event to complete the circle and close the Borelli era at Devens. This one had 58 golfers and was just as fun, but was much more meaningful for Dave and me.

The 666 Devil Went Down to Georgia tournament was a going-away tournament for me and I appreciate all the kind words and well wishes from everyone. Before awards, Dave presented me with a disc signed by everyone at the tournament as well as the guys from league. I was not expecting it and must admit that I was really touched by the gesture. Thank you again, everyone. That disc is going front and center in the new store!

For Dave I know it was special because once again the disc golf community came together to help one of its own. We raised almost $1100 for Dave and his family to help offset expenses as they deal with another bout of leukemia with their daughter Meg. Great job golfers and thank you for your generosity!

Although Dave and I weren't partners this time around, I kept the winning tradition alive with Donnie Disc Golf as my partner and we won by one stroke. No ace this time though!

Killing it at Pro Worlds

I've been in Santa Cruz, CA since Saturday helping cover the Pro World Championships. Mainly I've been taking a lot of photos and writing up a random blog or article for PDGA.com. It's been pretty busy and each night I am pooped.

I've met tons of people including many head honchos of various disc-related companies and organizations, and of course players from all over the world. My favorite so far has been world long distance record holder, Christian Sandstrom. His signature disc, the Valkyrie, is my favorite disc so it was great to meet him. During the long distance contest on Sunday, he chucked a disc 624 ft into a steady headwind!

It all ends Saturday with Finals at Pinto Lake. Until then, it's back to work!

Ace times two!

Yesterday was a good day for aces at Devens. Patrick Johnson hit hole 12 with a Vibram Trak in the afternoon and I hit hole 9, aka the Borelli Bunch hole, at league with a KC Pro Aviar!

It was Patrick's first career ace and he couldn't stop smiling. Nice job, buddy!

Patrick Johnson

This was my second ace on hole 9 and when you add Marcy's first and only ace she got there a few years ago, that makes three for the Borelli Bunch. I was definitely due -- my last ace was at a tournament at Pye Brook 15 months ago!

What was even cooler was that I had my dog Smokey with me to witness it. He didn't seem too impressed but I know inside he was proud of his old man.

Last night I officially passed the Wednesday Weekly torch to Luke A. and it was great to be just a player again after so many years. I guess getting an ace was karma's way of thanking me last night, huh?

Also congrats to Daniel Marcus for shooting the lights out at league and setting a new course record of 48! Wow! He said it was his first bogey-free round at Devens. Great job! That's going to be a tough one to beat.

Pro Worlds next week!

I'm starting to get a little excited about going out to Santa Cruz, CA Saturday to cover Pro Worlds. I just found their Facebook page and found this clip with Nate Doss and Val Jenkins doing a morning talk show.

They both stopped by our league last year with Avery Jenkins and did a clinic for our league members so it's always nice to see friends of the Hill get some press.

Plus, it's funny to watch reporters try disc golf for the first time. :)

666 Devil Went Down to Georgia Tourney - Aug 21

It's a going-away tournament for Killer B!

Here's the info from Luke:

*****
Donnie Phillips and Luke Adolph are co-TDing a tourney with a joint purpose. We would like to send Devens LEGEND John Borelli down to Georgia in style while raising some money for Dave James & his family.

Many of you know the Borelli story but here it is regardless! Marcy took a new job at PDGA headquarters in Appling, GA back in April and John has stayed behind in Massachusetts to tie up all the loose ends here. Well, the day is coming soon that John will rejoin his distant love in Georgia and leave us all behind.

John hinted a few times that we should throw him a going away tourney but I think we would have done it anyway even without his persistence! In all honesty, John has been an integral part of the Devens course and to the local disc golf scene and he will be missed by all of us.

We also thought that while we are all getting together to see John off to Georgia why not try and help a local disc golfer family at the same time! A couple of years ago John ran a tournament to raise money for Meg James, the daughter of Dave and Kari James. Meg had been diagnosed with Leukemia and we raised a decent amount of money which assisted the family with the obviously staggering bills and expenses.

Meg finished her treatment in May only to relapse in June. She is back in treatment now receiving chemo. Soon she will receive radiation and then a bone marrow transplant. The family is being as hopeful as possible but they could really use our support and positive thoughts.

Along with half of the money from the low entry fees going directly to the family we will also have a donation jar at the registration table. Please bring what you can to support them and consider donating any winnings.

Please join us on August 21st!
