And here they are!

Great new patterns for Traks and Ascents

The Wednesday Crew snatched up the first eight Traks! They love their Vibrams!

It's nice to feel loved! Thanks Dodges!

New Vibram driver the Trak arrives today

The UPS Guy is scheduled to deliver a bunch of the new Vibram Trak today. We're one of the few stores in New England that has them, so come get one while they last!
Vibram's second fairway driver, the Trak, is the stable complement to the Ascent. The Trak is suitable to slower arm speeds as well as the big arms. It flies straight and true right out of the box. Be prepared to be surprised at how easy it is to get it on a long straight line.

Donnie Disc Golf -- Newspaper star

I was flipping through Sunday's Lowell Sun yesterday and look who I saw. Local Devens speed round legend, Donnie Disc Golf Phillips. He's the serious-looking grown-up in the tie.Where's your Killer B shirt, my friend?!

Scenes From the Front Door: Big Brown brings baskets

The UPS Guy brought me some new portable baskets today. Check out the Disc Nation Freedom 16-chain basket. These puppies are nice and sturdy and make a loud ka-ching when you nail your putt. I hit all of mine, so you know it's a good basket.

They are brand new to the market, so be the first on your block to get one!

Thank you UPS Guy

Easy to put together

Chuck digs the new baskets. Rock on, dude!

Some of you know that I am moving at the end of the summer. Before I put the house on the market, I have to get rid of a few things.

I've got a bunch of good stuff at very reasonable prices for sale. If you are interested in anything, email me before somebody else gets it! I'll be adding more things often, so check back again.

All sales final. Cash only and first come, first served. Thanks and happy bargain shopping!

Hard at work

Today is Take Your Dog To Work Day, so I did. Smokey just had his sixth birthday and has already greeted a bunch of customers today. Good boy!

He's doing pretty well, so I think I'll start taking him more often along with his dog bro Duncan who came to work a few days last week.

Crime (writer) hits Killer B

Crime novelist Paul Cleave stopped in today during his first round of disc golf ever. Paul's a big deal in his native New Zealand and wrote an international best-seller called "The Cleaner" plus several other blood-soaked thrillers. He's also thrown a regular Frisbee in 16 countries!

I told him I'd give him a plug and introduce him to the crime novel reading disc golfer crowd, so here you go, Paul!

Check out how book covers change for different countries. Interesting.

Two Disc Dilemma slowing filling

We are up to 30 players, half of which are Intermediate AM2 players. It's great to see so many new players signing up!

I think this will be a great event to cut your tournament teeth in, but don't wait too long to sign up. With two and a half weeks to go, registration is guaranteed to speed up.

Show us your Donkey!

Those of you who have been around the NEFA disc golf scene for the past 10 years probably know the guy known simply as Tserpes, or Donkey. I've played many a tournament with John and it was great to see Drew, Pete, and him stop by today after a couple rounds at Devens.

Thanks for coming up from the Cape, Donkey!

Pete, Drew, Tserpes

Happy birthday!

Birthday girl spending her 21st birthday playing disc with a brand new Beast! Nice.

Disc golfers are cool

A few weeks ago when the first bit of hot weather hit, I turned on the air conditioner in the store. Beep, click, beep, click. Nothing. I was bummed. And hot.

I put the word out on our Facebook page and the NEFA discussion board that I was looking for an HVAC disc golfer guy to come check out the unit. John O. from Worcester sent me an email offering to help the next time he was in the area.

Then I remembered that a batch of new players worked for a commercial HVAC company who happened to sponsor our course, so I reached out to Dan T. He asked around the office and thought maybe they had an extra window unit stashed away somewhere.

The first ever disc golf drive thru?

The next day, Chad W. stopped by the store and said he had an older unit sitting in the garage that I could have. I said great and he ended up dropping it off later that day! Thanks again, Chad!

Thursday, a few guys from league came in and saw the AC sitting on the bench. We got to talking and Alex L. offered to install it for me. Since Alex is a carpenter by trade, I said you bet!

Adam and Alex.

Friday afternoon, Alex and Adam D. came back and within thirty minutes had the old one removed from the wall and the new one up in its place. Bing bang boom! Chilly air!

Today it's nice and frosty in the Hive. Thanks again everyone you helped and offered to help. Now our inventory won't melt during the next heat wave.

I told you disc golfers were cool.

Measure twice, cut once.

Have you signed up for the Two Disc Dilemma yet?

The Devens Two Disc Dilemma is just under a month away. About 20 golfers have signed up and have already spent countless hours thinking about which two discs to use.

Going from the sign-up form, the disc of choice so far is the Buzzz. Can't say I disagree with that since I'll probably play with just one disc -- my blueberry Buzzz! It is the perfect disc for Killer B Disc Golf, no?

Congrats to friend of the Hive Roger Gagnon who won the 2-day Borderland Spring Fling this weekend. I guess your trip to Colorado did you well!

More photos from my trip to GA coming soon. Oh, what the heck, here's one now!

A little history in photos

There are lots of cool things to see at the IDGC if you are into the history of flying plastic. Here are a few. I'll post more next week.

It flies like crazy! Just 79 cents!

Show Us Your Hive!

While I'm melting in the Georgia heat, another friend of the Hive is enjoying a bit cooler temperatures in Colorado. Roger G. sent in this photo from Vail, CO and reports that all mountaintop courses are still buried under several feet of snow!

Great shot, Roger. Thanks!

Cash money

Tuesday night I headed over to Pendleton King Park for their weekly random doubles league. I ended up getting paired up with the guy who designed the course, so that was cool. We did pretty well and finished tied for third and took home a whopping $4 each! A good time overall on a great course that reminded me again that I need to work on my forehand flick.

Today I spent the day at the International Disc Golf Center in Appling, GA where the PDGA has its main offices and where Killer B #2 works as the office manager. After meeting the other staff members, I headed out with Intern Anders to play the par 65 Steady Eddie Headrick course which is the shortest of the three courses surrounding the IDGC.

Killer B #2 hard at work

It was a beautiful and challenging course and one of my top 5 favorites. Almost every hole had several fairway options or made you think about your second shot before you even teed off. A handful of holes play around or over water and make you think. It is awesome.

With my arm pretty much a wet noodle, I think I'll take Thursday day off and try out one more league at Riverview before I put away the discs for this trip.

When in Augusta...

You know the saying, when in Rome do as the Romans do? Well, since I'm in Augusta, GA I'm going to do as the Augustans do -- jump on the Augusta State University golf team bandwagon!

That was the big news around here this Sunday when I arrived for a little R&R. The ASU golf team had won its second consecutive Div. 1 NCAA Championship. Pretty impressive if you ask me and congrats, fellow golfers.

On the way to the appropriately-named Augusta GreenJackets' single-A baseball game last night, Marcy and I happened to come across the tail-end of a victory celebration for the ASU golf team at a park across from the stadium. We decided to go in and see what was up. The place was packed with young guys in polo shirts and slacks posing with the trophy. They had quite the spread of finger foods, soda, sweet tea, and water. Everyone had a t-shirt marking the occasion and sadly, we just missed the autograph session.

One table had a stack of mini Coke bottles with the ASU logo on them. I thought they were free so I picked one up on my way by. "Sir! Sir! Sir!" came at me from three different people behind the table. "Those aren't free! They're $6." Uh, okay. I'll pass then.

We left the golfers to their celebration and walked over to the baseball stadium. First of all, the team name is one of the most creative ones I've ever heard and incorporates the whole golf cultural and history really well (you know, with the Masters at Augusta National and all?) The team's logo would make a good one for Killer B Disc Golf and their gift shop was called the Hive. Whuh!? I'm suing!

But enough about ball golf and minor league baseball. Earlier in the day we played Patriot's Park disc golf course. It was a pretty good course with some fun and challenging holes. Even though it was a brisk 90+ degrees, there was a nice breeze that messed with my throws just enough and kept us relatively cool.

Nailed the birdie!
For this trip, I decided to bring some discs I've never thrown, so while I figure out how they fly I'm sure my scores won't be too impressive. I think it's fun trying to do well with what I have and really don't get hung up on my score. So, in my bag yesterday I had a goldine Havoc which I really liked the few times I chucked it, a Vibram Ascent which seems to like easy controlled throws rather than total powershots, a star TL which I am already loving, a Z Hornet that I'm not too excited about but may just need a lighter one, and a Z Nuke that I'm liking. Stupidly, I forgot to bring along an understable disc yesterday and that came back to bite me on a few holes, but forced me to work on my forehand instead. Overall, I shot +4 with one 7!

Tonight I'm taking Killer B to Pendleton King Park Dubs for my first taste of Georgia competition. Should be fun! But first, it's off to grab some lunch and then sit by the pool and get my tan on.

Closed next week; off on another disc golf adventure!

We will be closed Sunday thru Friday next week, but you can bet I'll be blogging about my latest disc golf adventure. Stop by Friday or Saturday if you need anything before then.

Show us your Hive!
Here are a few photos from Nate S. on his latest disc golf adventure to Kentucky and Virginia. Thanks for taking Killer B with you!

"Here's me with my B schwag!  Forgot to roll around in the Colonels 11 herbs and spices mixture before I got fried in the Kentucky sun."

"Left my Killer B Buzz at Pratt Park in Virginia, no call yet.  :(
Damn you second practice shots!"

Tornadoes hit area

At least four deadly tornadoes ripped through MA yesterday, including my hometown of West Springfield. The storms passed just south of our store here in Ayer where we only had two minutes of hail but wiped out huge sections of the state less than an hour away.

Tornado gathers strength over the Connecticut River. Wow!

Please stop for a moment and send some good vibes to the victims. If you can, please donate a few dollars to the American Red Cross who is helping these people deal with this both physically and mentally. Thank you.
