It's official -- we're official. Killer B #2 and I are now PDGA Certified Officials.
Now don't get too excited for us; anyone can become one. All you have to do is pay $10, take the test (it's open book), and pass.
If you plan on running a PDGA event or playing a Major or NT event (as a Pro or AM) this year, you must take and pass the test. Once you pass, you're good for three years and you get a snazzy Certified Official badge.
Even though it is an open-book test, they throw in some tricky questions. I was 23/25. Many of the questions dealt with the new and updated rules for 2011.
If you'd like to take the test or just want to brush up on the new rules, stop by the store and grab a 2011 rule book. It's always a good idea to carry a book in your bag so you aren't that guy who stands there avoiding eye contact when a decision has to be made!

New! Flights charts added to the website!
There's no need to go to every disc manufacturer's website to find their flight chart anymore because we have them all here in one place (at least the brands we sell, anyway).
Check out our new Flight Charts page featuring the updated and very helpful Innova charts that show the actual flight path of each disc. Now that's smart.
We've also got Discraft, Latitude 64, Vibram, ABC, and Gateway charts.
Or, if you're old school, come look them over down at the store.

Killer B's winter vacation - Day 1
A few weeks ago after yet another snowstorm, Killer B #1 and # 2 decided to shut the shop for a week and head south in search of warmer weather and more specifically, green grass. Three feet of the white stuff and frigid temperatures had finally made us reach our tipping point, so we packed up the Killer B Sportster and pointed her south to FL.
We set our sights on Ft. Myers where Marcy's relatives live and thanks to another overnight dose of wintry mix, hit the road a little later than we had planned. Our first stop was the store where I slid acros the ice skating rink of a parking lot and put a "closed" sign in the window. When we returned, my neighbor the barber told me that the sign made a lot of people laugh.
When we hit NYC, there was a small backup getting on the GW bridge. Two lanes were merging into one and a car was blocking traffic while it waited to get into the left lane. In a bit of cosmic awesomeness, a NYC cop appeared out of nowhere on foot, walked up to the car blocking traffic, and started chewing out the driver. It was awesome. He made the guy get out of line and continue straight. It was great to watch and I liked NYC a little bit.
We got through NY and most of NJ when Tom Tom, our GPS, decided it was time to take us the scenic route. We knew I-95 was the way to go but decided to see what Tom had in store for us. We ended up getting off somewhere in southern NJ and cutting across to I-95 on regular roads with traffic lights. It didn't make much sense, but it was a nice way to break up the drive.
Back on 95, we steamed south through Philly, Maryland, DC, and Richmond, Virginia. Nothing too exciting happened on this part except seeing the Washington Monument and Capitol from a distance. We finally decided to call it a day around Rocky Mount, NC. We were not even halfway there.
For those of you with a smartphone, I highly recommend just winging it on your next roadtrip. Don't worry about where to stay. Use the Priceline mobile app or Hotwire to find a hotel. We did that every time we needed a place to stay and it was useful because we didn't have to worry about being in a certain place at a certain time.
Stay tuned for more Winter Vaction adventures later!
Have you bid on this great Killer B hat yet? Only a few days left. Bid now!

Bid on this one-of-a-kind hat!
Here's your chance to own a piece of Killer B history -- our first hat. To be honest, we chose the wrong style and ended up with a version that is a bit too domey for Advanced Masters like me. Not the Killer B style we were aiming for. It does look pretty dope on Chuck, though.
It's a one-of-a-kind FlexFit, L/XL, cotton blend black cap with the full-color KB hive embroidered on the front. This style KB hat will not be made again and is pretty nice if you're into the high-hat thing.
In any case, it is up for grabs. Highest bidder over $20 wins it. Bidding closes Friday, 2/25 at noon EST. Winner pays shipping or can pick it up at the store. Good luck!

Did you know that 700 pounds of cheddar were used to create Cheddar Mount Rushmore? According to food2.com, after a multi-city tour it was whacked up into a million little cubes and served on crackers. (more)

Help us choose the first Killer B disc!
We are trying to decide which disc or couple of discs to slap the Killer B logo on. What do you want to see the Hive on? And which plastic? Please comment below.
Speaking of discs, January's Get the Buzz winner Chris LaTouche stopped by yesterday to pick up his prize, an ABC Flying Squirrel. He was nutty with delight.

Thanks ekap!
I'd like to thank Eric Kaplan, otherwise known as ekap, for donating a huge 32-inch TV to the store. It sure beats the tiny 7-inch one it replaces!
Stop by and check out the latest Vibram Open DVD, as well DVDs from previous MSDGCs and VOs. It's good to see that touring pros hit trees too!
For those of you who have the itch to disc golf but don't want to brave the snow and cold, come by and play some Tiger Woods disc golf on the Wii!
Thanks again, ekap!

Tanned and rested
Not really, but it was nice to see and feel warm sun and play some disc golf down South last week.

I put 3500 miles on the Killer B sportster over the past 8 days, visited 7 courses, stopped at the International Disc Golf Center, played at the course that hosts the USDGC, left one disc floating in a lake, saw my share of roadkill, and decided that most people don't use cruise control.
I also ate pretty well except for this morning where my hotel had just three boxes of donuts for their free breakfast offerings.

In any case, I'm glad to be back and will be back at the store this week starting tomorrow. Looks like it's been warm up here and I bet you guys are itching to go play with some new plastic!
Look for more photos and details about the trip in the upcoming days.

Show us your Hive!
Killer B is enjoying a break from the snow and cold with a few days in Florida with quick stops in Clearwater, Fort Meyers, and Orlando.
I played one round at Cliff Stevens Park in Clearwater on Tuesday despite "chilly" 49-degree weather and clouds. Ha! It was a fun course to play and I recommend it.
Tomorrow, it's off to the International Disc Golf Center in Appling, GA as the B works it's way back to snowy New England. Ugh, I don't like the sound of that.

Tasty new Innova things for you
Come check out the new Vulcan distance driver which according to Innova is like a Katana with less fade and perfect for new players. It's pretty flat and has a unique beveled rim where your thumb goes.
There are also a few of the new FlyDry towels with looped strap, some "Play Disc Golf" license plate frames, a couple tie-dye Destroyers, and a handful of official PDGA rule books waiting for you.
Forget the snow (and the fact that the Patriots aren't in the Super Bowl) and come check out the new stuff!

Disc golfers raise $1400 for local food pantry but need just $100 to reach goal. Help!
Sunday's Ice Cube Open Ice Bowl at Devens was a huge success (and pretty fun too!). We broke last year's fundraising record by $300 but fell short of our goal by a measly $100. So close!
Please help us hit $1500. Thank you!
UPDATE: We did it! Thanks for your help.
For more info, results, and photos, visit the Devens disc golf website over the next few days.
