Plaza renamed Killer B Shopping Center

This weekend, Rob and Steve put up our new outdoor store signs: one 6-footer on each side of the plaza tower and one 8-footer above the store. They are just a teeny bit bigger than the rest, no?

Killer B logo designer Josh Hughes came by with Jeff Cooper one last time before returning to Philly and played one more round. "I need to pull a good round together and shoot par," Josh told me before heading out.

Well, he did better than that as he ended up aceing hole 11 and finishing with a 53! Now that's some good karma payback.

A bunch more stopped by this weekend including one of my first disc golf friends, Roger Gagnon, who I was happy to see resurface on the disc golf tournament scene this year. Thanks for driving out and good luck with your dye experiments, guys!

Yesterday afternoon Marcy came in and had the brilliant idea of me going over to the course and putting flyers on car windshields. It was brilliant because about 30 minutes later, two carloads of golfers came in saying that they had seen the flyer. Why didn't I think of that earlier?

The Radford family has the DG bug!

In between customers, I finished hanging discs on the wall and rearranged once again. I think I'm happy with how things are set up now, but we'll see...

Thanks to all of you who have joined our Killer B Disc Golf Facebook page. We're almost up to 75 fans! Please keep spreading the word.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs

Wednesday evening I got the call from Jeff at Sites & Signs in Pepperell that my store signs were ready. I hustled over there and man do I like what I saw!

Killer B Disc Golf is going to take over the Devens Shopping Center. These signs blow away all the other ones and definitely inject some life into our little strip mall. I can't wait to put them up.

This afternoon, my friend Josh Hughes who designed our awesome hive basket logo, stopped in to see his masterpiece. Josh does great work, no?

Here we are looking strangely short.

Aspen takes a break after restocking our Innova order.

Busy busy

Wednesday was a busy day as several players stopped by mid-round. Tales of windy conditions and lost discs in the leaves were common.

Devens tagholder Patrick Johnson stopped by with his Trader Joe buds to drop off a lost disc they had found and pick up a few new ones.

Other regulars like Tim Seiger and Nat grabbed some new gear and Dave James and his daughter Carly surprised me with a pre-Thanksgiving lunch. Thanks!

Black Friday Sales Blowout Doorbuster Extravaganza!

It's our first Black Friday Sales Blowout Doorbuster Extravaganza! Starting at 11 AM everything will be marked at full price! Yes, you heard right! Full price!

Forget getting up at 4 AM. Sleep late. It's your day off, for crying out loud! Go play a round at Devens and stop by the store later. Free leftovers for all while supplies last (limited quantities available).

Happy Thanksgiving, golfers!

The Big Es

Stephen and Nick Economos came up from Worcester today to play a round at Devens and check out the store.

The two brothers were bitten hard by the disc golf bug earlier this summer and have been playing a ton. Mark my words, after they get a few more tournaments under their belts, they'll be making some noise in NEFA next year.

You've been warned!

Some good news, some annoying news

First the good news. Despite being open just a few hours this weekend, we had several golfers stop by to check us out! The world-of-mouth buzz is definitely working. Keep spreading the word!

The other good news is for all you Facebook addicts. I've set up an official Killer B store page on FB so you can like us and keep track of what's going on down at the Hive. Now you'll be able to see all my thought-provoking and witty updates on your wall. Yeah!

Look in the right column over there --> and see all the other cool kids who like us. You do want to be cool, don't you?

The slightly annoying news is that if you previously liked us, you'll have to do it again to the store page, unfortunately. None of the "likes" got moved over.

The best good news is that our outdoor store signage should be done in the next day or so. Can't wait to see them!

November 19, 2010

Weekend hours

Saturday we will be open from 9 to about 3 because Marcy and I have to go down to Pyramids to help run the NEFA Charity Auction.

Sunday is our annual Bagtag Bonzana tournament at Devens, so I will be at the store from 8:30 to 9:30 and Marcy will be there starting around noon.

After this weekend, we'll have regular hours so please bear with us. Thanks to everyone who stopped by today!

Pulling them in from the West Coast

I opened at 11 today and was "swamped" by six customers the first hour.

Andy D was the first to drop by and picked up a new Hill Yeah long-sleeve shirt, a couple discs (another Flow out the door!), and a bitchin' Killer B hive basket window sticker.

Next was Chris from Washington state in town for business and some golf at Devens. He brought along local newbie Travis who picked out a few discs and was excited to play his first round ever.

While they were checking out, Mr. Devens himself, Brian McNulty, and Mark Hamilton came in to say hi on their way out for a second round.

Rounding out my first sales rush was Devens regular Pete N who picked up, yep-- a Flow and the new Vibram first run Ascent driver. He also grabbed a KB hive decal because he knows what's dope.

So, now that the 'rush' has died down, it's time to fire up the pricing gun and get to work!

November 18, 2010

Our first customer

Devens regulars Donnie Phillips and Doug Callaghan were the first golfers to stop by the store this evening.

After waffling between the Opto or Gold lines, Doug grabbed a beautiful pinkish Latitude Flow Opto and a bluish River Opto to become our first paying customer. Thanks Doug!

Doug is #1!

Another Devens regular, Dave James, came in shortly after and picked up a few discs and a camo Fade Crunch Box bag for his friend. He also toasted us with some sparkling cider too. Thanks Dave!

Dave's friend is going to be a happy golfer.

We will be open Friday from 11-6. Stop by and fondle some plastic while I continue to set things up!

And we're official!

I'm happy to announce that as of 11:27 AM, Killer B Disc Golf is now officially open!

After a very quick look-see, the building inspector issued our occupancy permit and wished me luck. Done!

I'll be in and out the next few days tending to prior commitments, but feel free to call me at 978-433-6133 to see if I'm in the store and then stop by!

You can also "like" Killer B on Facebook to keep tabs on us too.

Here we go! Keep on chucking!

Gateway arrives!

Putters filled my mailbox today as our order of Gateway Wizards, Magics, and X-outs arrived. That should about do it for plastic for now.

November 16, 2010

Could Thursday be the day?

Looks like Thursday may be our opening day at the store. I just got a call from the building inspector and he's coming Thursday morning. Good news!

Yesterday, my beautiful order of Latitude 64 discs came in. These are some cool looking discs, especially the Gold line. They have this crazy textured shiny look to them, kind of like bowling balls. Stop by and check them out!

Rob and his dad Steve built me two more tables last night, so now I have somewhere to display my stuff. Today I pick up some bins and by the end of the night, we should look a little more like a store!

November 15, 2010

This made my day!

I showed up at the shop this afternoon to find this note on the door. I guess the buzz is building! See you soon, T.S.

In case you can't read it, the note says:
"I can't wait!! Finally a pro shop close to us!! Call when you open. I'll be here."

November 12, 2010

These Fade bags are killer!

I just unpacked our first Fade order and man do these bags look great. I'm liking the blood red and the Devens-appropriate camo a lot.

The WeatherGuard bag straps are pretty cool too. The straps have a removable raincover that goes over your entire bag, including the bottom.

We also ordered some Phenix bag straps yesterday and sent in our Gateway order this morning.

November 11, 2010

A banner day

Put up a couple banners today courtesy of Maple Hill disc golf course and received some good news about getting hooked up to phone and Internet. It's possible but will take 4-6 weeks. Better than nothing I guess.

Fade bags and straps came in this afternoon and I scored a cash register off Craigslist. Nice!

Tomorrow we get our new heating unit just in time for an oddball 60-degree Saturday.

New walls, new heater, new Fade bags

The new theme continues this week with new walls, a heater, and bags.

Last night, Rob and Gizmo came by and helped install some wall slatboard that I got from another unit. After taking some time to figure out where the studs were located, we put it up relatively fast. Don't know if I'll actually use the wall, but it adds another level of "storeness" to the place.

Our shipment of Fade bags should arrive today. I can't wait to see the colors we selected. Blood Red sounded pretty cool. Don't mess with me, trees.

And lastly, the new heating unit is finally scheduled to go in tomorrow.

Don't forget, we are installing new FlyPad teepads Saturday morning at Devens. Please help out! Free lunch and much good karma.

VO video

Here's some great video from an event I blogged for this past August, the Vibram Open. Derek does some fine work, that's for sure!

Innova arrives and it's the end of the world!

Our fives boxes of Innova gear arrived this afternoon. The UPS driver asked me what all this stuff was, so I told him I was opening a new store, trying to be a patriotic American and help spur on the economy.

"Oh, yeah? That's great. I'm sure you'll do well. Good luck," he said.

Then he launched into an anti-government, doom and gloom, China is going to take over the world, politicians don't give a damn about you, me, or anyone else except their bank accounts, 9/11 conspiracy theories, Americans don't care that their country is going doing the drain as long as they have their NFL, SUVs, and big-screen TVs, gas will be at least $5 a gallon next year, we're going to be in a depression worse then the Great Depression in a year tirade.

He made some good points, but the funny thing was that it was so out of the blue, like he was just waiting for someone to let it all out on while driving around all day.

"I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I'm just saying. The facts are out there. Turn off your TV and find the facts. Buy silver now and start saving your cash. The first thing to go will be banks and you'll need cash to buy food, gas."

I like my UPS guy and look forward to my next shipment for his next installment!

Duncan likes what he sees. Look at that tail go!

Today's haul.

November 5, 2010

Oh, pretty plastic!

Quality control checks-in our Discraft order.

Lots of bright colors perfect for winter golf!
Another exciting day at the Store -- I put up Exit signs.

Now we wait for the Occupancy permit and our first orders to arrive. Discraft should be coming today!

November 4, 2010

Internet service? Uh, yeah... about that.

Looks like it'll be a little while until we get traditional Internet and phone service at the store. Comcast came out this morning and discovered that the strip mall I am in is not wired for any modern technology besides can and string. So, if they choose to run more wire and install a junction box, I'll be able to get it. If not, then it's on to Plan B. That decision process will take a few weeks supposedly.

Silly me for thinking that everywhere was cable-ready in 2010.

After I scrubbed ten pounds of rust out of the toilet and sink, I headed over to Town Hall and grabbed the necessary applications from the Building Inspector and Town Clerk so that I'll be ready to apply for my Occupancy Certificate once the landlord installs the new heater. He better do it soon because it's a bit chilly in that store.

On a happier note, we've been approved as Fade Gear resellers and should be making our first order tomorrow.

November 3, 2010

Innova is on the way

Did a little cleaning today and gave the 10-cent tour to Dave, Rob, and Frank. They helped by taking measurements for signs.

After a round at Devens, (I finally deuced 14!), I got an email from Innova telling me our order was on the way. We just ordered it this morning. Wow!

Carpet down, Discraft on the way

The store looks totally different with our nice new carpet. Today it's some cleaning, vacuuming, and window washing. What fun!

Got an email today telling me all 80 lbs of my Discraft order is on the way. Woot!

November 2, 2010

Primed and ready

Just waiting for the floors to dry. Found a nickel. We're up to 16 cents pure profit so far.

A few "before" photos

Today we really start to claim the space as ours with the installation of new carpets!

The landlord is almost done with his fix-up promises. The walls are repaired and painted, holes are patched, and junk has been removed. Last up is for him to get the heater working and a thermostat installed.

So here's how it looked this morning.

Our first order has arrived!

Killer B Dogs Smokey and Duncan checked in our very first order this afternoon - a box of snazzy Vibram putters (VP, Ridge, Summit) and drivers (Ascent). Very cool!

KBD Smokey likes the Ridge for his straight approach shots.

KBD Duncan prefers the Summit for those dogleg right approaches.
